Wal-Mart was founded by Sam Walton, he initially started a discount store in 1950 called Walton’s Five and Dime. He had earlier operated a Ben Franklin store in Arkansas and he continued renaming the store as Walton’s Five and Dime. Sam Walton had owned 11 stores by 1962 and he along with his wife Helen took a huge gamble and reinvested everything they could spare into a new store at Rogers in Arkansas. Two brothers named Dick and Mac Mcdonald started McDonald’s brand in1940. They reinvented their restaurant in 1948 after they noticed that the hamburgers were their most popular product. They used the concept of Speedee Service System that pioneered the fast food industry by creating a production line of hamburgers that were prepared before they were ordered. This was a completely new technique and earlier food was prepared after being ordered.
Wal-Mart has been conventional in respect of acquisitions with most company expansion coming from new growth. The early 21st century was lucky for Wal-Mart as their sales and profits continued to climb with no sign of any bad affect from the weakening global economy. There were some moves of McDonalds that were perceived as negative by historians and biographers but McDonald’s Corporation denied any nasty behavior on their part. The popularity of McDonald’s was never seriously affected.
The clown called Ronald McDonald was introduced in 1960s as the popularity of McDonald’s brand grew with their release of Big Mac burger which it’s most popular burger. McDonald’s Corporation started giving back to the community with the founding of the Ronald McDonald House charity by the 1970s.
